A warm welcome to our summer newsletter
Summer has finally arrived, and it’s so lovely to see the sunshine and be able to enjoy outdoor activities without getting wet! The air conditioning in the clinic has been very welcome for all our physios and patients as the clinic can become very warm!
We are delighted to announce, as of August 1st, we will be working at a new location, as well as Hillview. Located in Horsell at Prime Acrobatics – on the same site as Waters Edge Café at Heather Farm.
Ben, Julie and both of us will be working there for 1 session per week each. We will also be welcoming Katherine Thompson, Podiatrist who will be there once a week from September.
It’s a great location, and in case you were wondering it’s not just the café and great cakes that swayed our decision!
Have a fantastic summer.
Alison & Christina
Top tips for the Summer!
- Always stretch before and after gardening.
- Keep well hydrated – remember to drink plenty of fluids when exercising and gardening in the heat.
- Too much ice will water down your G&T in this weather!
For a bit of fun, we decided to run a Euro ‘16 Sweepstake. It proved so popular, with our patients and physios alike, we had to run 2!
Physios Julie and Lizzie along with Portugal, were elighted to have won.
Our patients, Sharon M & Julian K, came 2nd with France.
We decided Wales came 3rd, as they scored more goals than Germany. So Ben (physio) and Clive K (patient) were thrilled too!
Wooden spoons went to Phil D & Jerry G.
Julie, participated in an 8 weeks Mindfulness Course, which has helped her to stay focused on the present and reduce stress levels. Ben & Alison recommend an App called Headspace, which compliments Julies course and will help de-stress our lives – got to be worth a go!
Ben, attended a course in Southampton, on the Sporting Hip and Minimally Invasive Shoulder Surgery . The hip surgeon was very informative using evidence based practice work which will help in treating patients following hip surgery.
Andrea, attended a Foundation Day for Advances Balance. This was a very insightful course which covered things like vestibular balance problems (vertigo, inner ear balance problems).
Andrea & Penny, attended an Orthopaedic Study afternoon run by the Nuffield Group. Four Consultants gave talks on various orthopaedic topics which Penny & Andrea found an interesting refresher.
Penny & Christina, attended a very interesting conference on Pain to Performance. There were 6 consultants talking on various lower limb conditions & how to treat and manage them. Blogs – Don’t forget to check out our website for our latest blogs.
Fire at Hillview Medical Centre
There was a small fire in the Medical centre last week, causing us to be evacuated and 2 fire engines to be called! After 45 minutes we were allowed to return and business returned to normal. Well done to all our staff on a safe evacuation.
Ellie Gets Muddy for Charity!
On the 4th of June, Ellie completed the Muddy Race for Life 5K obstacle race. She smashed her fund raising target to raise money for Cancer Research.
She would like to thank patients and staff for sponsoring her.
Ellie’s next challenge is a half marathon in October – go Ellie!
Basic Life Support & Defibrillation Training
We would like to thank Luke, from Back To Life, for running a 3 hour course on how to resuscitate a person. Many of our physio’s and all of our receptionist were able to attend.
The course was very well received and we feel equipped to deal with an emergency, if it should arise. But hopefully it’s a skill we will never need to use!
